November to December

Deep winter

Thaw-freeze
March
Daytime melt running across lots and refreezing overnight is the most dangerous stretch of the winter. Drainage paths and low spots need watching more than the sky does.
Season close-out
April
Final events are usually short and wet. Site walk to check for plow damage, staking pulled, and anything that needs repair flagged before the growing season starts.
Durham Region considerations
Durham has two winters running at once. The Lake Ontario shoreline through Ajax, Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa and Bowmanville is moderated by the lake, so it takes more freezing rain, wet snow and thaw-freeze than it does deep accumulation — the risk there is ice, not volume.
